Book Of Memories Launched In Ballytarsna

"Dogs Ears and Classroom Tales" is the title of a book launched last week by Fr. James Feehan in The Little Flower National School, Ballytarsna. Ballytarsna national school is in the Parish of Boherlahan-Dualla.

The book is a compilation of facts, stories, memories and photographs, covering many of the decades of education in the area since the first school building was completed in 1873. This and the building which replaced it in 1965 were on the main Dublin-Cork road, five miles north of Cashel. The new school which was officially launched in June of 2009 by Archbishop Clifford is off the main road.

There were over eighty contributors to the book which gives insights into a random selection of the social history of the area. The production of the book was supported financially by South Tipperary Development Company under its brief to facilitate the recording of important stories, history and folklore which would otherwise be lost through the passage of time.

The function was attended by a large gathering of parents, pupils past and present and friends of The Little Flower National School. The launch included addresses from Fr. Peter Brennan, C.C., Chairman of the Board of Management, Ms. Siobhan McGrath Byrne, School Principal, John Devane, CEO, South Tipperary Development Company, Fr. J. Egan, Parish Priest and Fr. James Feehan who formally launched the book.

Fr. Feehan is a both a past pupil of the school and a former parish priest of Boherlahan-Dualla. His father, Tom Feehan came to Ballytarsna in 1908 as school principal, so it was fitting that a link of over 101 years was acknowledged and completed on last Thursday night.

The launch event was chaired by Willie J. Dwyer and following the speeches, a beautiful musical performed was provided by senior class students. The very enjoyable evening concluded with a variety of refreshments provided by the parents association which was much appreciated.
